A crafty solution for Rachel’s sewing room

When Rachel took early retirement, she knew she wanted to take up a new hobby. The old spare room was quickly transformed into a sewing room, but glare was a problem. Here’s how Web-Blinds helped her keep the sun out of her eyes.

Earlier in the year, Rachel was lucky enough to be offered early retirement. And although she decided to set up her own company part-time, she was also keen to channel some of her free time into a new hobby – sewing.

She took the old spare room, which people only stayed in once a year, and turned it into a sewing haven. The colourful room soon came together, but there was just one problem – glare.

The old bedroom gets a lot of direct sun, making it not-so-great for beavering away with a needle and thread.

“I didn’t want to sit with the curtains closed all the time,” says Rachel, “but equally, I didn’t want the sun in my eyes. So it was time to layer up with a cream blind.

“My husband, David, is handy, so we knew we could fit a blind ourselves. A quick search online and we found Web-Blinds, and ordered samples so we could see how they looked at the window.

“We quickly decided on and ordered the Haze Beige Roller blind. It’s a classic, simple design that won’t date, and it’s wipe clean too which is great.

“The video was so easy-to-follow I really think I could have done it myself if David wasn’t able. Luckily, I made an even better project manager…”

Rachel is delighted with the blind – it keeps the sun out of her eyes, but creates a lovely warm glow at the window, so she doesn’t miss out on the sunlight. And she’s even more delighted with her new hobby…

“I’ve booked on loads of workshops, from dress-making to appliqué and I’ve really got the bug. My aim is to make a Christmas present for every family member and friend. I’ve started with tote bags, and a sensory book for my disabled nephew.

“The only problem is, work’s getting in the way! I want to be up there crafting away all the time!”
