You know that Scandi look everyone’s raving about? Laura’s got it nailed. In the first of two parts on customer Laura’s home, we take a peek at her peaceful living room.
“Late last year, my partner James and I decided it was time to put down roots,” explains Laura. “We have a little girl, Florence, and wanted to buy our own property after renting for a number of years.
“We decided to purchase a new-build place in Nottingham which we knew we could put our own stamp on.
Laura and James’ living room is a diversion from the style seen in their previous rented properties which had a more vintage feel.
“We were guided by our new home – having a shabby chic style made sense in the older homes we rented, but we really wanted our furnishings to match the style of property. So we went for a fresh, clean look throughout.”
Laura wanted the look to feel modern and calm, but not too minimalist (just as well with a two-year-old running around)! The artwork on the wall sums it up – the room is a wonderful balance between decoration and blank space.
And when it came to dressing the windows, they wanted the clutter-free finish to continue.
“A friend recommended Web-Blinds. When we were browsing, we were impressed by the lovely shutter-effect created by Wooden blinds with tape.”
The white Wooden blinds they went for suit their small windows perfectly, and satisfied their need for privacy as the front window looks out directly onto the street.
A nook at the end of the living room houses Florence’s area, including the newest addition, a miniature IKEA kitchen. Who says toys can’t fit a Scandi scheme too?
Laura and James have managed to create something most families only strive for: a balance between a place for the adults to relax and a place for their child to grow. And that’s something to be proud of!
