Problem solver – blinds for patio doors and kitchen windows

Hi Web-Blinds,

Kitchen patio doors

We’ve just purchased a new build property with this kitchen-diner space and aren’t sure what to do with our windows. We’ll be overlooked eventually when building is complete so we want to put something at both the kitchen window and patio doors. But my question is: do they need to be the same blinds?

Not wanting to be too matchy-matchy,

Hi Grace,

We’re often asked about uPVC door blinds and the best options for kitchen-diners. To answer your question in a nutshell, no your blinds don’t have to match at all! The only limit is your imagination, but here are some types that are especially perfect for your situation.

As your window is above your sink, you’ll want something that can withstand little splashes. Rollers blinds are perfect for the job, or you might like to consider a wipe-clean Vertical blind fabric, or even waterproof shutters.

As for the patio doors, it’s all about choosing something that gives you the privacy that you need but doesn’t flap about and get in the way. Perfect Fit blinds are so great at this – choose from Venetian and Pleated blinds which literally clip into the frames for a neat effect.

Alternatively, you could try Vertical blinds which open to whichever side your prefer or even neatly split in the middle when open. They’ll leave you plenty of room to be in and out.

Whatever blind types you choose, you could opt to have them complement or contrast each other. Neutrals will always look lovely in your space, but if you’re feeling like you’d like to make a statement, why not pick a striking pattern and a plain together?

Go make something beautiful,

Grace gives grey the go-ahead in her kitchen-diner

Grey is bang on trend. So when Grace showed us exactly what she’d done with her kitchen-dining space, we swooned over the newest neutral once more.

“We decided to keep things neutral,” says Grace. “Our house is a new-build, so we could choose everything in the kitchen. The grey tiles and worktops were already our fav, which made grey blinds to match a pretty natural choice!”

“Taking on the advice we were given, we chose a Roller blind for the kitchen window, and Perfect Fit Pleated blinds for the doors. We ordered samples to make sure the two greys complemented each other.

“We have a little one too, so it was important to us that the blinds were child-safe. We were delighted when Web-Blinds had loads of options.”

Grace opted for a cordless Roller blind which simply pulls down. Similarly, the Perfect Fit Pleated blinds she chose are controlled by tabs at the bottom for an easy, child-safe finish.

We’re over the moon with the end result,” says Grace. “It really finishes off our brand new kitchen perfectly, and will be invaluable when building work starts on the home behind us.”
